Pension of Kalyani sisters will be resumed, memorial will also be built: CM Shri Chouhan

All religions prayer meet and Shraddhanjali Sabha held on Bhopal gas tragedy anniversary

Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that the monthly pension of Rs one thousand to Kalyani sisters who were widowed in the gas tragedy will be resumed. This regular pension being given to Kalyani sisters which was discontinued in the year 2019, will be resumed. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that the capital should also have a special memorial related to the gas tragedy. Soon this will be made a Prakash Stambh Smarak which will serve as an inspiration. Shri Chouhan was addressing the all religions prayer meeting held on the 36th anniversary of Bhopal Gas Tragedy at Barkatullah Bhawan in Bhopal today. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan offered flowers on the symbolic portrait of the victims of Bhopal gas tragedy.

Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that the gas tragedy victims have been exposed to serious health challenges. They are being provided complete treatment facilities on priority basis. In view of the Corona crisis period, special attention is being paid to the treatment of such patients. Not only this, the citizens of old and new Bhopal, are also getting clean Narmada water. Garbage disposal arrangements related to gas tragedy have been made. Necessary steps will be taken to further strengthen them. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that we have to make a human-friendly model of development. Let us save the environment and resolve that no city becomes Bhopal again.

Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that humans have endangered humanity for their happiness. Deteriorating environment causes destruction. While innocent civilians are killed by the atomic bomb, there are also terrible consequences of manufacturing pesticides. He said that this Earth is made for everyone. Along with humans, animals, birds, pests, insects, rivers-seas, trees and plants are all part of the earth. Referring to the ill effects of the Bhopal gas tragedy in the year 1984, Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that people running on the streets in confusion had died of suffocation due to the poisonous gas leak. Shri Chouhan said that along with many citizens, I have been a witness to the tragic death of animals also. In fact, all those incidents have become distressing and painful. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan paid heartfelt tributes to the victims of gas tragedy on behalf of the people of the state.

Religious gurus prayed for the welfare of mankind while reciting selected portions of sacred texts at the prayer meeting. Religious gurus including Pt. Ramesh Tripathi of Sanatan Dharma, Qazi Syed Mushtaq Ali from Islam, Sikh Guru Shri Gyani Gurubhej Singh, Christian Guru Maria Stephen, Jain Guru Shri Veer Kumar, Buddhist Guru Shakyaputra Sagar Bhante, Bohra Samaj Guru Sheikh Shakir offered prayers for the welfare of mankind at the prayer meeting. On this occasion, seating arrangements were made in adherence to the norms of social distancing.

Among those who were present on the occasion were Bhopal Gas Tragedy Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Shri Vishwas Sarang, MLA Shri P.C. Sharma, former MLA Shri Ramesh Sharma Guttu Bhaiya, Chief Secretary Shri Iqbal Singh Bains, Additional Chief Secretary Shri Mohammad Suleman, Commissioner Bhopal Shri Kavindra Kiyavat, officials of Bhopal district administration, other public representatives, representatives of various organizations and dignitaries. The programme was conducted by Shri Santosh Tiwari. Those present paid tributes to the gas tragedy victims by observing two-minute silence.
