Street vendors will also get I-cards along with interest-free loans: CM Shri Chouhan

Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that a scheme to provide an interest-free loan of Rs 10,000 to rural street vendors of Madhya Pradesh has been implemented, in order to give a strong foundation to their business. All vendors will be provided with identity cards, so that they can do their work in a respectable manner. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that big companies will not be allowed to snatch away the business of small businessmen. Addressing the street vendors, Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that I have faith in your hard work, therefore I am taking the guarantee of your loan and the government will also repay the interest of this loan.

Chief Minister Shri Chouhan was addressing a programme, organized for loan distribution to small businessmen of rural areas at Minto Hall, Bhopal today. The programme was broadcasted across the state. Lakhs of people joined the event live through various social media plaforms. On this occasion, Chief Minister Shri Chouhan also interacted with the beneficiaries. The programme started with the Madhya Pradesh Gaan. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that vegetable and fruit sellers, those running chaat shops, paan shops, small cosmetic shops, cobblers, barbers, laundryman and other small businessmen doing similar work are facing financial crisis due to Covid-19. The Madhya Pradesh government drafted a plan in the month of July to redress their grievances through this scheme. In just a period of two and a half months, loan amount is being given to 20 thousand rural street vendors of the state.

Arrangement of double loan amount on repayment of loan

Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that with this scheme, street vendors of Madhya Pradesh are becoming self-reliant. Programmes are being organized under the Gharib Kalyan Saptah for the welfare of people of different classes from September 16th in the state. Today street vendors are being benefitted with this gift. As many as 20 thousand beneficiaries of the state are availing benefits of this scheme which provides interest-free loans of Rs 10 thousand to each beneficiary. Informing about the scheme, Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that under this scheme, there is a provision to give double amount as loan next year on repayment of loan of Rs 10 thousand by the beneficiary. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan told rural street vendors that “Aapki Zindagi Badalna hi Hamari Zindagi Maqsad Hai” (The aim of our life is to change your life).

Loans will be given to all street vendors registered under Kamgar Setu portal

Referring to the PM Swanidhi Yojana, which provides loans to street vendors in urban areas, Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that Prime Minister Shri Modi has lauded the achievements of Madhya Pradesh under this scheme. Out of the total number of beneficiaries of the country, 66 percent are from Madhya Pradesh. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that taking into account the success of the scheme in urban areas, street vendors in rural areas should also be considered to be benefitted in the same manner. Nearly 8 lakh 52 thousand people have been registered through the Kamgar Setu portal in the state. The goal is to benefit all street vendors.

Street vendors will not be removed-Street management will be done together

Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that in addition not to remove the small traders from their places, the civic bodies will be directed to take care of their means of livelihood. These hard-working vendors will not be removed from their workplaces in the name of beautification. In order to keep the streets clean and beautiful we must also consider cooperative street management in association with the street vendors in which they will have the right to sell their goods and their participation in solid waste management in the streets will also be decided. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that identity cards will also be issued to the street vendors by Janpad Panchayat, who will get loans under the scheme.

Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan interacted with the street vendors of Indore, Shahdol and Guna via video conferencing.

Mama will pay the interest

While talking to Shri Mukesh of Ringnodia gram panchayat of Indore, Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that now that you have got the loan, pay your installment regularly, so that you can take the next loan of double the amount. At this, Mukesh assured that he will definitely pay regular installments and the interest will be paid by Mama. Shri Mukesh runs a vegetable shop. Mukesh told the Chief Minister that his daughter has always been unwell. Water Resources Minister Shri Tulsiram Silavat was also present in this conversation. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan asked Shri Silavat to ensure Mukesh’s daughter’s treatment and get the advice of proper experts.

Mama Phulki Centre

Rambihari Vishwakarma of Mahotra gram panchayat of Shahdol runs a phulki cart. He has named his cart ‘Mama Phulki Centre’. Rambihari said that he worked as a labourer earlier. His wife is a member of the self-help group. He came to know about this scheme from his wife and decided to start is own enterprise. Now he is satisfied with his own work. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan told him not to worry about the loan and to expand his work further. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan advised him to take special care and maintain cleanliness at the Phulki Centre.

You take initiative, we will extend support

Bhagirath Bagle of Baksanpur village in Guna district runs a small cosmetic shop. Shri Bhagirath’s son has done B-Com. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that income can be increased by keeping few other items for sale in the shop along with cosmetics. The government is always ready to provide such assistance. You take the initiative, we will extend support.

Thanks to CM Shri Chouhan’s sensitivity, street vendors got capital and support too

Welcoming the Chief Minister Shri Chouhan in the programme, Minister of State for Panchayat and Rural Development Shri Ramkhelavan Patel said that this scheme has been launched only due to the sensitivity and foresight of Chief Minister Shri Chouhan. People who are actually needy and who did not have alternate employment, have actually been assisted in the Corona period under Chief Minister’s Rural Street Vendors Loan Scheme. Corona pandemic has put the livelihood of street vendors and small businessmen at risk. This scheme has provided them capital as well as the support to start their business again. Former Minister Shri Rampal Singh was present at the programme.

Additional Chief Secretary Rural and Panchayat Shri Manoj Shrivastava, Coordinator of the State Level Bankers Committee, Shri SD Mahorkar were also present. On this occasion, Chief Minister Shri Chouhan presented symbolic cheques to street vendors Sushri Sarita Maran, Shri Hari Singh, Shri Bala Prasad, Sushri Sangeeta Ahirwar, Shri Prem Singh and Sushri Rakhi Bai of Bhopal.
