Loss of Rs. 9 thousand 500 crore caused by heavy rainfall and floods

No loss of life; A big achievement
CM Shri Chouhan called on by Central Team came to assess damage

Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that according to preliminary assessment there has been a loss of about Rs. 9 thousand 500 crore caused by heavy rainfall and floods in the state. Arrangements were affected due to the damage to crops, houses, cattle as well as roads and infrastructure in the state. In this situation, people were rescued from their homes and taken to relief camps.

Efforts were made to prevent loss of life and we also succeeded in doing so. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that Union Government has been informed in detail about the losses caused in Madhya Pradesh by heavy rains occurred last fortnight. Survey work is being carried out continuously and situation of more loss may also be emerged. The state government has lent maximum help to the affected people.

No stone will be left unturned to provide further relief. After the visit of the Central Study Team to the affected districts, cooperation will be received in carrying out the relief works to its full extent. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan was deliberating with the members of the Central Study Team, which came to take stock and study the flood affected areas today at his residence.

Chief Secretary, Shri Iqbal Singh Bains, Agriculture Production Commissioner, Shri K.K. Singh, Principal Secretary to CM, Shri Manish Rastogi and other officers were present on the occasion. The situation in the flood affected areas of the state has already been put forth to the study team on Thursday through a detailed presentation.

Urge to send a separate Central team for assessment of damage caused by insect-disease

Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that losses are being compensated through crop insurance and relief amount; he expects cooperation from the Centre to compensate for the damage caused by insects. He said that there has been a lot of damage to crops due to the disease caused by insects. Damage is being surveyed by the revenue staff of the state. He also requested to send a separate Central Study Team to assess the damage caused by insect-disease. It was informed in the meeting that mainly soyabean, maize and gram crops have been affected due to insect disease. Crops in 1.5 lakh hectare area and 17 lakh farmers are affected by insect-disease in the state.

Succeded in preventing loss of life owing to continuous monitoring

Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that due to the heavy rainfall on August 28 and 29, the water level had reached the rural residential areas and agriculture fields. The army and other relief teams worked vigilantly day and night. Continuous monitoring was done. Twelve districts of the state were severely affected and 23 districts were partially affected. In total damage was caused to 8 thousand 442 villages. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that he himself did not sleep for 48 hours. He visited the affected areas immediately and ensured the arrangements for the safety of people’s life, their accommodation and food in relief camps. Shri Chouhan said that it is a matter of satisfaction that as a result of the activeness and alertness of the entire staff, we succeeded in preventing loss of life.

Rainfall upto 39 percent above average

Chief Minister Shri Chouhan informed that 26 to 39 percent more than the average rainfall has been recorded in the month of August in Sehore, Raisen, Hoshangabad, Harda, Dewas, Indore, Agar-Malwa, Bhopal and Chhindwara,. Home Guard, Army, SDERF and NDERF actively undertaken the rescue operations in the state. Thirteen thousand 344 people were rescued in the state. A total of 22 thousand 546 people were evacuated to the safer places in the most affected districts of Ujjain, Khargone, Khandwa, Vidisha, Niwari, Narsinghpur and Seoni. A total of 231 relief camps were set up in the state.

Damage to crops and houses

Chief Minister Shri Chouhan informed that due to the heavy rainfall and floods, the damage has been caused to crops in about 11 lakh 30 thousand hectare area in 24 districts. About 11 lakh 34 thousand farmers have been affected. Approximately, 60 thousand houses were damaged by the floods. The government has made full efforts for immediate relief. People still need relief. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan urged the Central Team to submit an in-depth report of the damage after conducting the thorough inspection of the flood affected areas of the state by meeting and discussing with the affected people.
