Residents of Sikari village set target for getting 

"Nirmal Gram Puraskar"

The residents of Sikari Jagir village of Bhind district are now making efforts to secure "Nirmal Gram" award for their village, although this village of Lahar Vidhan Sabha constituency has been declared as a "Gokul Gram".

The residents of this village have started efforts to make it an ideal village by maintaining it clean by adopting a slogan "Nirmal Sikari Swastha Sikari" . The work of making the lanes pucca in the village and construction of latrines in every house has been started.

The moment Bhind Collector apprised the residents of the village of the "Nirmal Gaon Puraskar Yojana" of the Central Government at a district level public grievances redressal camp, the residents have started adopting necessary standard for securing the award.

With a view to win the award, the residents have started the work of maintaining their village clean, making the lanes pucca and construction of drainages for the clearance of filth. So far, 500 meter long cement concrete lanes and drainages have been constructed at the cost of Rs. 5 to 6 lakh. Besides, the work of constructing 600 meter long more lanes of cement concrete is in progress. Channels around the village have been constructed to drain out water from the village. These channels would also be made pucca. The water of the channel would be released into the tank.

In this way, special attention has been paid to the drainage system of the village. In order to maintain the village clean, the residents have started throwing the rubbish and sweepings of their homes into the pits dug outside of the village to maintain it clean.

All the resident of the village are unanimously constructing latrines in their houses under an all out cleanliness drive. The work of constructing latrines have started in the village. The scheduled castes families living below the poverty line (BPL) are being paid Rs. 125 by the gram panchayat and a subsidy of Rs. 500 is being by the government for the construction of a latrine. The latrines are being constructed by collecting Rs. 625 per family of the general classes.

For the construction of latrines, 250 latrine sheets have been purchased at a time. Latrines are already available in 50 houses. All the houses in the village will have latrines of their own after some time. The men, women of all classes and the labourers are getting employment in the ongoing construction works in the village. In the form of wages, 150 quintal wheat and 10 quintal rice have been distributed in the village. Besides, 30 - 35 quintals wheat and 10 quintals rice are still available in the stores. On an average 30 workers are getting employment daily in the village.
