30-year
old Laxman of Vilalge Padkhuri of Budhar Janpad was a
poor farmer with considerable land. Now he has become
one of the rich farmers earning lakhs of rupees every
year.
Even
though Laxman had 50 acres of land with him but he was
always depending on the mercy of monsoon which often
did not bless him. He used to cultivate paddy on a
portion of his land and if the monsoon did not favour
all his efforts used to go in vain. In this condition
Laxman was finding it very difficult to meet both
ends.
Laxman
used to dream about becoming a successful farmer.
Since there is no source for irrigating his land, he
could not change his dream into reality. But the
agriculture department of the state government came
for his help. And that was a turning point in his
life. The department assisted Laxman to dig a tube
well by providing with subsidy. The department also
assisted him to purchase a sprinkler, pump and other
agriculture implements for irrigation, all with
government subsidy.
When
Laxman started his dream farming with the assistance
of state government, it was like a boon for him. Now
he is cultivating paddy, wheat, Alsi and vegetables in
the whole land leaving no portion uncultivated. These
days he is earning at least Rs 3 lakh 50 thousand as
net profit every year. Not only this, he employs on an
average 100 labourers for the whole year. He is taking
three crops in a year. With the profit earned from his
land Laxman has purchased a tractor and motor cycle
and constructed a pump house also. What a
transformation from a poor farmer with 50 acres of
land to a rich farmer giving employment to at least a
hundred persons!
With
the government assistance, Laxman's life style has
changed completely. He says "Earlier I could not
fulfill my necessities of life. Now I am able to
fulfill all my wishes. Earlier I used to borrow for
meeting my daily needs of life. But now I am in a
position to lend money to others."
The
government assistance and hard work transformed Laxman
from a shepherd to a rich farmer. Since he has money
and employs others, everybody in the village respect
him. Senior Agriculture Development Officer of the
agriculture department Shri S. B. Singh says "By
providing resources and technical advice the
government is assisting the farmers for increasing
agriculture production. Laxman's story is just one in
thousands."
