Plantation
of saplings has become one of the most important works
at present. But only planting of saplings will not do.
Success of plantation depends on protecting and
nursing them in all adverse circumstances until it
becomes a tree. In most of the Panchayats in Khandwa
district after planting saplings they are protected
and nursed till they become trees.
Under
Mahatma Gandhi National Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNEGS),
good results of planting of saplings have started
showing, Baidiav is one of such panchayats under
Khandwa Janpad Panchayat. Like in any other places
planting of saplings was done here too under MGNEGS
but along with that all efforts were made for nursing
and protecting them. One of the special features of
this tree plantation is that women and even
handicapped were given maximum work under the scheme.
Near
the crematorium ground of Baidiav village, 2600
saplings were planted in the year 2006-07 and 1960
plants in the year 200708. During the year 2008-09,
1000 saplings were planted. At present all these
plants have started growing and are becoming trees.
The saplings include plants of mango, aonla, neem,
soobabool, karanj and 800 plants of sitaphal. Earlier
the place was like a desert and people rarely went
there unless they have to. But now it has become the
most beautiful place of the village. A total 11038
human days were created for planting these saplings
under the MGNEGS scheme and Rs 823819 were paid as
wages to the labourers of the village.
MGNEGS
is even good for handicapped
Under
MGNEGS scheme, the rural people are given at least 100
days work in a year. But in Baidiav village this
scheme has proved an important and real source of
income for the handicapped persons. Handicapped
persons like Banshilal, Dinesh Asharam, and Smt,
Subhadrabai are handicapped by legs. They cannot walk
like a normal person. Earlier, they had no source of
income. These three persons were engaged in light
works like planting of saplings, etc and were given
wages. Banshilal said that earlier he used to catch
fish for a living. But he could earn very little from
it. Since he was handicapped by legs there was danger
of his drowning. But now he is getting work in the
village under MGNEGS and is being paid for his work.
