Bhopal : Thursday, August 04, 2005 Updated 21:25 IST

Mukesh, who was earlier facing acute financial problem is now earning Rs. 150 per day by plying an auto rickshaw. After meeting daily expenditure on petrol and other necessities he saves so much money. With which he meets all other domestic expenses easily. He is now extremely happy by plying the auto rickshaw daily.

His financial condition is improving slowly and children are going to school.  Mukesh now says although he remained uneducated because of poverty but he vows to educate his children to the fullest possible extent.

A 26 year old youth, Mukesh is a resident of Khalesar locality in Umaria town. An auto rickshaw was made available to him by the District Antyavasayi Sahakari Samiti on July 15 last and it has now become a regularly means of earning for him and his family.

An auto rickhsaw driver, Mukesh recalls that his family was facing poverty since long. His father Shri Sunderlal along with his family members was engaged in  his ancestral work of preparing baskets to meet out both the ends. Some times, he worked as a rag picker, but it was difficult for him to meet the domestic expenses.

His family included five brothers and two sisters. It was very difficult to feed a family of nine members. Due to poverty Mukesh could not go to school and he had no money to do some business.

By chance, one day Mukesh went to the Office of the District Antyavasayi Sahakari Vikas Samiti in search of employment and met the officer-in-charge there. He narrated his problems to the officer and sought his help to start some work. He was advised to ply an auto-rickhsaw to earn his livelihood. He had earlier learnt driving an auto living with his uncle at Dhanpuri and had a licence for doing this.

Mukesh agreed to ply an auto rickshaw as advised by the executive officer of the Samiti. The officer asked him to make an arrangement of Rs. 12,000 as margin money, later on he was sanctioned the loan worth Rs. 73 thousand which included grant of Rs. ten ten thousand.

After doing all formalities, the key of an auto rickshaw was handed over to him in July last. Mukesh now is a happy and independent wage earner.
