Gaudan Yojana starts paying dividends in Gokul Grams

Bhopal : Sunday, July 03, 2005 Updated 20:39 IST

Gaudan Yojana being implemented by the government in Gokul Grams in the state has started paying dividends to the women engaged in the scheme.

The women of Gokul Gram "Gol" in Hoshangabad district, who were earlier working as daily wage earners have now started earning thousands of rupees by working under the scheme at their homes. They are now slowly heading towards prosperity. Under the "Gaudan Yojana", jersey cows have been provided to 15 women of the village "Gol". One of them Sheela Bai says "it is better to do one's own work instead of working as a labourer for others".

A dairy of two jersey cows has been provided to 15 women of this village. All of them belong to the scheduled castes, tribes and other backward classes. Of them, Narmadi, Sheela, Mala, Bhuriya, Mani, Laychi and Shakulan Bai belong to the scheduled tribes; Priya and Bhanwali, Baijanti, Kesale and Saroj Bai belong to other backward classes. An amount of Rs. 41 thousand has been sanctioned to them as loan, which includes Rs. 15 thousand as grant. While feeding a cow, Sheela Bai says that she had personally brought a jersey cow of her choice from Kiratpur (Itarsi) farm. She says that she had received Rs. three thousand in 20 days. "This is a better work instead of working as a labourer for others:, she says. Mano Bai has earned Rs. 21 thousand so far. "It is better to serve a cow instead of working as labourer", she says. She is earning a profit in this work, Mano added.

Another woman, Narbadi Bai has received Rs.1500 so far in this work while Bachan Bai has received Rs.1300, but she has not spent any money out of the amount. She says "Abhi doodh ko ek paisa nahin khao hai". She is erecting a shed for her cow and has made arrangement of feed for her cow for the rainy season. She hopes to get more benefit in future.

Jersey cows were provided to these women by the cattle wealth and Poultry Development Corporation. They had personally brought the cows of their choice from Keeratpur farm.

The residents of the village have seen the jersey cows in such a large number for the first time. They are happy, since they are earning money even after remaining at home.
