The
Election Commission of India is going to contemplate soon
on fixing the dates for Lok Sabha elections. It has
requisitioned details about the public holidays and other
vacations as well as schedules of high and higher
secondary schools. The Chief Electoral Officer has been
asked to initiate action in this connection by December
22.
The
Election Commission of India has given similar instruction
to its units in all the states in a run up to the Lok
Sabha election preparations. The commission is of the view
that all the poll-related preparations should be completed
well in time to avoid last-minute problems and eliminate
mistakes and oversights.
The
Chief Electoral Officer has been asked to send the list of
holidays approved by the state government for the year
2009 apart from the local holidays at the district level.
The
Chief Electoral Officer has also been asked to obtain
copies of exam schedules of high and higher secondary
schools and send the same to the commission at the
earliest. The commission is of the view that Board
examinations should start in the early March and end
during the same month.
