The
process of withdrawal of nomination papers has got
underway from November 8 after their scrutiny. This
process could not be undertaken on Sunday, November 9 due
to holiday. However, candidates desirous to withdraw their
names can intimate to this effect by 3 pm on November 10
to the concerning returning officer. After formal
information, the nomination papers will be withdrawn and
this process will not be reverted. Thus the concerning
person will not be eligible to continue in poll fray.
During the 2003 Vidhan Sabha elections as many as 326
candidates had withdrawn their names.
The
candidates intending to withdraw their names will have to
move a written application to the concerning returning
officer in this connection. This information can be given
by the candidate himself or his proposer or polling agent.
In the case of proposer and polling agent, the candidate
will have to authorise them. So far as independents and
candidates belonging to registered by unrecognized parties
are concerned, the information of withdrawal of their
names will be accepted from any of the 10 authorised
proposers.
The
concerning returning officer will give a receipt after
receiving the information of withdrawal of nomination.
After 3 pm, the returning officers will also affix a list
of remaining candidates in the election arena on the
notice board. The schedule will include candidates' names,
party and election symbol. One copy of the list will be
given to every concerning candidate or his agent.
Similarly, a copy will also be pasted at the concerning
polling booths. The returning officers will rush the
copies of final list to the office of Chief Electoral
Officer so that there is no delay in their printing.
Another copy with English translation will be sent to the
Election Commission.
The
final lists of candidates remaining in the election fray
will be published in the official gazette through State
Election Officer. However, the list of those elected
unopposed will not be published in the gazette.
Identity
cards
All
the candidates will be given identity cards showing their
names and the parties they belong to. However, the name of
the unorganised party will not be written.
