Bhopal is
set to take a
place on the IT
map of the
country. A
Software &
Hardware
Technology Park,
spread over 40
acres of land is
to be set up by
M.P. State
Electronics
Development
Corporation. The
project is to be
formally launched
on 24th February
by the Chief
Minister, Sushri
Uma Bharti and
Union Minister for
IT &
Telecommunications,
Shri Arun Shourie.
The
project, estimated
to be completed in
a span of two
years, is to be
developed with
assistance from
Government of
India, as a joint
venture, by the
State Government,
in association
with leading
private
infrastructure
companies. The
facility will
provide direct
employment to
about ten thousand
IT professionals
as well as
indirect
employment to an
equal number of
people in the
supporting
services for the
park.
The park,
located adjacent
to the satellite
tracking facility
being set up by
ISRO, will create
state of the art
infrastructure for
IT hardware
manufacturing
units as well as
software
development and
ITES companies.
The
facility will
provide readymade
built up space for
the units as also
developed plots on
which units can
set up their own
facilities. The
park will create
about 5,50,000sq.
ft. built up
space, in two
phases and provide
about 11 acres
land (48,4000) for
freehold plots.
Space for set-up
of STPI
international
gateway, for
telecommunication
facilities, within
the complex is
also being
provided.
Infrastructure
will include
dedicated
electricity and
water supply
facilities besides
modern
telecommunication
infrastructure and
power back-up
facilities.
Support
infrastructure
will include
auditorium,
conference halls,
restaurants, banks
and ATM counters
and travel
counters.
The
location is well
within the city
and at a very
short distance and
commute time to
the airport and
railway station.
The facility is
also conveniently
located, adjoining
a large
residential
facility developed
by the government
as well as private
builders.
The
challenging task
of putting Madhya
Pradesh on the IT
map of the country
has been
recognized by the
government and is
getting the
required attention
and support.
Madhya Pradesh
currently has a
very small share
of the IT
production and
service (h/w &
s/w) market in the
country. Annual
software exports
from the state
have been approx.
75 crores and the
industry is mainly
concentrated in
Indore, while
there is currently
no hardware
manufacturing
facility in the
state. The
creation of this
facility is
expected to give a
much-needed boost
to the development
of the IT sector
in the state.
Central location
of Bhopal is a big
advantage
especially for
hardware units, in
terms of
logistics, from a
warehousing and
distribution
viewpoint, as it
would cut costs.
Bhopal is also
close to both
Mumbai as well as
Delhi and well
connected by air
as well as rail to
these cities.
Further, cost of
operation in
Madhya Pradesh is
a fraction of
other locations
and the state
government is also
likely to extend
an attractive
incentive package.
Adequate
technically
qualified manpower
is available in
the state and also
problem of
manpower turnover
faced by companies
in the metro
locations would
not be an issue.
These factors of
central location
and availability
of technical as
well as human
resource
infrastructure
influenced ISOR to
locate its
proposed hi-tech
satellite tracking
facility at
Bhopal.
Development
of this facility
in Bhopal along
with other
software parks
currently being
developed in
Indore will enable
Madhya Pradesh to
emerge on the IT
map of the
country.
